Thermal DPF cleaning in Nottingham

Your filter comes off the vehicle and goes through controlled heat cycles on our Beacon DPF-CL machine, so soot is oxidised and ash is released from the channels. Then we refit it, clear the codes and you drive away.

Bring it in if

Signs the filter has had enough

DPF light stays on

A steady motorway run hasn't cleared it, or it comes straight back on afterwards.

Limp mode

The engine has cut power to protect itself and won't rev past a set point.

Regens keep failing

The car keeps trying to regenerate, or a garage has forced a regen and it hasn't held.

Fuel use has climbed

Constant attempted regenerations burn extra fuel and dilute the oil.

A previous clean didn't hold

Usually heavy ash rather than soot. Ash needs a different approach.

MOT is due

A malfunctioning DPF is a common emissions failure. Worth checking before, not after.

The process

What actually happens to your filter

  1. Removal

The filter comes off the vehicle with the sensors left intact wherever possible, to avoid damaging them or the threads.

  2. Assessment

We check the condition of the ceramic before anything else. Cracked, melted or oil-soaked filters cannot be recovered by cleaning and we will say so.

  3. Controlled thermal cycle

Managed heating and cooling on the Beacon DPF-CL oxidises trapped soot and breaks down the bond of baked-on ash.

  4. Channels cleared

Loosened residue is worked out of the channels so the filter is left open rather than just lighter.

  5. Refit and reset

Back on the vehicle, stored fault codes cleared, and a check that the system is reading correctly.

What we won't do

We don't remove DPFs, gut them, or map them out. That makes a vehicle illegal to use on the road and an automatic MOT failure. If your filter genuinely can't be saved, we'll tell you what a replacement involves instead.

Questions

About the process

Do I have to remove the filter myself?

No. Bring the vehicle in and we will take it off for you. If you would rather remove it yourself and bring us just the filter, that is fine too.

How is this different from a clean done on the car?

In-situ cleaning puts chemical or water through the filter while it is still fitted, so it works with whatever flow the exhaust gives it. Off-vehicle cleaning lets us treat the whole filter directly and put controlled heat through it, which reaches ash deposits that in-situ methods can struggle with.

Could the heat damage my filter?

The cycles are controlled, with the heating and cooling rates managed to avoid thermal shock to the ceramic. That control is the reason it is done on dedicated equipment rather than with a torch.

What if cleaning doesn't fix it?

Then something else is wrong. Blocked filters are often a symptom rather than the fault — a failing EGR valve, injector problems or a split intake will fill a filter back up in weeks. We will tell you what we have found so you can deal with the cause.
